I took this photo on our way to the 303 Dive Bar one night on Ambergris Caye in San Pedro. It’s a great bar about 4 minutes north of the bridge. I’m a Colorado native and the original owner and I went to the same high school. It’s a hoot walking into a beach bar in Belize and seeing street signs from all the CO ski resorts I grew up with. There’s even a ski lift chair on the deck 🙂 Colorado drivers license gets you a free shot! The 303 is as beach bar as it gets, with mountains.

Belize’s is full of Thrill, Chill, and Adventure
Belize is a paradise for adventure seekers, offering a wide range of exciting activities that cater to every taste. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or someone looking for a relaxing day, you’ll find something to enjoy in this beautiful Central American gem.
Ambergris Caye and San Pedro are a long ways from rappelling off a breathtaking 300-foot cliff but whatever floats your boat, right? The rappelling was frigging intense but I love the island!! We’ve swam with the sharks everytime we’ve been to the island. It’s truly unique and on a good day we see the sea turtles.
We didn’t this last trip but have seen them every trip before so I can’t complain. The sharks however are always there. Last trip was the first only time I wondered if what I was doing might be a little stupid. I bought an under water camera after our trip last year and said I’d never miss another great shot trying to get that stupid bag around my phone to feel my finger.
Anyway, I may have gotten a little carried away, literally by the mass of sharks next to the boat. The guide asked me if I got bit because one of the sharks did get overly “friendly,” but all is well. They’re nurse sharks and such a peaceful engery but they do have teeth and I’ll be sure to give them more space next time.
Experience the Local Fun of San Pedro
We met a couple on the ferry that told us we havvvveee to go checkout the Nauti Crab, and the crab races. They had me a crab race but I have to be honest…, I thought to myself, how long is this race going to take? Little did I know that the crabs know exactly what’s going on and they haul ass!! We spent $5 a crab x I don’t know how many, and it was a shit ton of fun. They have races on Tuesdays and Thursday nights and proceeds go to charity. To date, they’ve raised over $160k and donated to the local school system to help kids in early development. The owner, who is also the host is a really cool guy. Great stories and a solid human being. If you go to Ambergris Caye, and miss the crab race, you’re missing more than a race.
NOTE: This is NOT meant to be a family event. It’s great humor, but it’s adult humor. There were some kids there when we were there and they were good sports, but if you’re a 12 year old betting on a crab in this race, you better be ready for some uncomfortable questions 🙂 It’s a ton of good hearted fun.
Until next time
There is so much I want to do when I visit San Pedro and I always feel like I’ve missed out on so much when I’m on my way home. We’re going back in the next few months and I’ll add new experiences as they come up. I’m also hoping this site, and our FaceBook Page help be find some new neighbors and their feedback and advice can be added here as well. I love the idea of retiring on the island I;m looking forward to a next chapter and new friends.
